More Fun 65 Restoration

I love Golden Age More Fun!  Same as Detectives and Action...DC Publishing in the 40's used better paper quality and covers are soft, supple with a beautiful matte finish.

This book was tired, worn and very dirty front and back covers and extremely dirt along the spine rolled margin.  Cover was dry cleaned in all white areas and cleaning pad used over entire book.  Rolled margin of all interior pages carefully dry cleaned to remove soiling.  Cover washed, light bleached using sunlight and spot bleached using hydrogen peroxide.  Cover pressed flat, spine reinforced using layers of Japanese tissue.  Fills along spine and top and bottom of cover as well as some worn areas along margins.  Tears sealed along margins.  Color touch at fills and mends.  Each page individually pressed flat, spine roll removed. Restored cover re-assembled to interior using original staples and book pressed flat.

Daredevil #1

This book was previously restored by an amateur.  I had to remove some glue along the spine as well as some color touch.  Since this had to be done, my client decided to fully restore it.    You will see various stages of restoration.
Cleaning the cover, humidifcation and pressing.
Reinforcing the spine with Japanese tissue from top to bottom as well as filling in any holes along spine and edges.
Color touch along interior and exterior of cover.
Lots of detail in creased, mended areas of front cover and back.
Each individual page pressed to remove any spine roll.
Restored cover re-assembled onto interior using original staples and book pressed intact.

Playboy #1

The one and only 1953 Marilyn Monroe Playboy #1. Cover very dirty and spine had several creases and dings as well as large crease at the lower right corner of the book.

Batman 1 page and Detective 44

Batman page was severely creased and it took a long time to unfold those areas. Very careful manipulation with jewelry tweezers and then ironing out each crease.  Lots of tears as well but client did not want conservation.  Page was also soiled so a lot of dry cleaning necessary along margins and some pencil overlay.   Love Golden Age candidates for pressing.  They are heavy and solid books.  Nice to bring it back to its true form.
